Walk that extra mile for your dream career: 9 Hustling Habits!

Imagine one day your surgeon coming and telling you he/she did an “OK job” on the operation. Or a Pilot saying he can fly an aircraft "ok enough". Wouldn’t we be shocked and upset at the lack of effort for something so important? Yet, for many things in life, we tend to settle for ‘good enough’ way too often. Particularly when it comes to giving efforts. What if…we made going the extra mile the new normal? What could we achieve, and how would it give a new definition to our lives? Today, let me go that extra mile to share and explore the ways we can put our best foot forward to not just do more, but be more.

Let's start by talking about what you want from this life. What are your dreams and how do you plan to make it a reality? if you are not motivated to push yourself enough, you will certainly not accomplish these goals. Life unfortunately does not come with a guidance manual, and one needs to put effort to live their dreams.

What we need is- ENERGY, COMMITMENT and ATTENTION to get the job done (even though the job is never done!).

We need to give up on your comforts. Maybe put yourself in the extra hours of work, often meaning missing out on parties or setting aside vacation plans until next month. Hustling involves sacrifices. As said by famous sportsman Jerry Rice-

"Today I will do what others won't, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can't"

Is a reminder for us that if we want something great in our life it is going to take a LOT of hard work. And not just any pointless effort but doing the actions that move the dial. We need to go all out, giving our best shot every day until we reach our burning out point and then still not give up, stand back up and continue to grind because hustle doesn't break. Got a goal you have been dreaming about? Feeling a bit stuck in life? Maybe these hustling habits are just what you need to get you going.

  1. Let go of the Distractions-To hustle like crazy you need to eliminate distractions and focus. That's the only way that hustle can be achieved. Successful hustlers aren’t looking at their phones every 10 minutes or watching Netflix. They are certainly not wasting their time. They are getting down to the nitty-gritty of all, and that’s what gets the work done. When you’re planning to work, the number one thing is to put any distractions out of sight. Stop checking your phone time and again. Put it on silent, and don’t touch it before you have successfully completed your task.

  2. Be Consistent with your routine- Building up a routine and being consistent will more likely help you reach your goals and not give up. It can be tough to stay motivated at times. But planning a schedule and working on it every day can help you get closer to your goals. Plan your tasks, even your meals. Make it a ritual so you can do complex tasks without thinking through every part of it. We are at our most creative and productive stage when we get in sync with a routine.

  3. Improve Daily- One way to end your day after completing all the tasks is by reviewing your goals and priming your brain for the next day. Getting yourself into the system of reading your last week's progress helps not to lose sight. It helps to have a particular Roadmap to reach your desired goals. So, start writing weekly progress. Get an app for it if requires. That's pretty much all!

  4. Never Self Doubt- Fear and lack of self-respect keep most of us thinking small. Not expecting too much out of life. You might feel you do not deserve success beyond a limit. But you need to put these negative thoughts behind and aspire for bigger things in life. Think differently from the people around you. Dare to dream of something beyond. At least that way even if you fail, you will fail to the standards of everyone else's success. That's the magic of thinking! It takes the same time and effort to think big or small. So why hold back and not think bigger?

  5. Be Original- Think. What makes you unique in your area of field? Find them. Embrace it in your work. I always tell people don't follow the herd, execute your own creative side. Your unwavering dedication to act creatively and to challenge yourself to think outside of the box is how you make a mark in the world!

  6. Giving up is not an option- One wrong perception about hustling is that everything will work out perfectly. But no, it’s quite the opposite most of the time. You won't always come victorious. You will mostly make mistakes. You will fail and probably even lose money. But the main deal here is you have to overcome your failures. Learn from it. If you stand back up, try again and do not give up, your persistence will lead you to your success. Basically, the motto of hustle is to never quit!

  7. Flood yourselves with motivational Podcasts- To say honestly, when we try to accomplish something bigger, it becomes more difficult to not be tired and frustrated. We will face frequent burnouts. This is when we need the right kind of motivation. To not give up and get back into the grinding business again! Doesn't matter if we feel defeated, lost or tired of overcoming challenges. There is an ocean of podcasts from thinkers, authors and famous personalities, that takes care of your every possible listening need. Who knows? Maybe a dose of an insightful episode might be just the thing you needed. To help you get started with the hustling affair, few picks that I can suggest to keep you going:

  • The GaryVee Audio Experience - It is a hard-hitting motivational podcast featuring a variety of content from entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk.

8. Stop giving excuses- From time to time we all make excuses. We humans have the bad habit of procrastination whenever there is an obstacle or a challenge. To be a hustler we need to overcome these excuses. Try to figure out what is making you avoid tasks? Address it head on. What can you do next? Start saying YES. Whenever you come across with any good opportunity that is relevant to meeting your goal, agree to it without hesitation.

9. Exercise to train your mind & body- Stress is a part of hustling and if you ever feel negative and doubt your abilities, it will harm your performance and most likely you will also be risking your physical and mental health. But the good news is you can change the way you feel and think. Your mind and body are wildly capable and anytime you can tap them to it to find the resources you need to solve any problem. Science show that less than one hour a day of physical activity can help shift all the negativity, pesky fears, second thoughts, your stress and help you be more productive!

Indeed, people who exercise regularly develop brain skills, have a more positive outlook on life and are able to handle their work pressure better.
